What you will need:

  • Rabies certificates: Your pet must have two ORIGINAL rabies certificates.
    • Pet has been vaccinated twice in lifetime
    • One rabies certificate is current
  • ISO compliant microchip
    • Must be 15 digits long
  • Proof of rabies titer results: Must have ORIGINAL result paperwork
    • It is recommended to wait at least 2-3 weeks after updating rabies vaccine before getting titer drawn
  • International Health Certificate: Pet must be examined during paperwork
    • Must be completed within 14 days of flight to China
    • Must be endorsed by USDA office in Wisconsin

All of the above must be mailed and endorsed by USDA office in Wisconsin. We recommend you mail paperwork right after your health certificate appointment so the USDA office can mail back before your flight. This requires payment of $121. Please visit website below for mailing instructions.

Timeline:

  • If your pet needs another rabies vaccine, schedule an appointment as soon as you know when you will be leaving for China
  • Rabies titer can be drawn at least 2-3 weeks after vaccine is updated
  • Rabies titer results can take up to a month to return to our clinic
    • You may ask the lab to expedite your lab work, increasing chance results be sent back within 2 weeks
    • Understand your pet may not pass the titer test and may need to retake it
      • May require additional vaccination
  • Health Certificate exam done within 14 days of flight to China

Things to note:

  • Only one pet can travel under one person
  • If you plan to travel with pet in cabin, you must have paperwork from airline and doctor’s approval
